Citizens Foundation: Donations lead to health care improvement
Citizens Foundation: Donations used to improve health care
Citizens Medical Center, Inc. is the largest health care organization in northwest Kansas. CMCI's four entities include: Citizens Medical Center, Prairie Senior Living Complex, Family Center for Health Care, and Citizens Foundation. CMCI is locally owned and operated by 270 members of our community.
When Citizens Medical Center was built at its current location in the early 1980s, the leaders of our community understood the importance of establishing a health care system that was not-for-profit and locally incorporated and operated. Thomas County is very fortunate that Citizens Medical Center does not receive any tax dollars, leaving moneys for community infrastructure and works, schools, the college, and other entities that making living here more pleasurable.
Some still believe that Citizens Medical Center receives a mil levy but CMCI does not receive any dollars from Thomas County sales tax revenues. Citizens Medical Center, Inc. is one of a few health care organizations in the western third of Kansas to be able to claim that it is locally operated, not-for-profit, and not funded by county dollars. CMCI remains profitable and able to continue its efforts to provide patients and their families with advanced technology and excellent services. We are also proud to assist other communities in northwest Kansas with their health care services if needed.
Citizens Foundation is an important part of the financial structure of Citizens Medical Center, Inc. As funds come to the Foundation, they are used to help our organization acquire equipment, programs, and education. As traditional funding sources decrease, non-traditional sources such as planned giving, grants, endowed funds, and interest earned increase our capacity for upgrades. CMCI's revenue sources are from providing patient care and donations.
Citizens Foundation has been the recipient of generous health care minded citizens. Because of their giving, the Foundation has been able to assist in raising funds to improve its capacity to accommodate existing and new services and provide our professionals with continuing education. In 2011 alone, the Foundation has funded over a quarter of a million dollars in equipment and education. These dollars were available because of twenty plus years of fund raising, prudent investments, good management, and above all, generous contributors who share our vision to provide excellent care.
