Countdown to a Healthy Pregnancy
We want you and your baby to be as healthy as possible. We have provided the following suggestions to help you achieve this goal. The more effectively you prepare your body for pregnancy the better. Begin these at least 3 months in advance of your conception for best results.
Start prenatal vitamins with at least 800 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid.
Start a regular exercise program that you can maintain throughout your pregnancy.
Increase your vegetable and fruit intake to at least 5 servings per day to maximize your body's nutrient stores.
See your dentist and start regular gum care that includes flossing.
Talk to your family about any family health problems so you can inform your doctor.
See your doctor for a regular physical exam and discuss your upcoming pregnancy.
Visit with your employeer about policies regarding doctor appointments, maternity leave, and parenting leave.
Visit with your insurance provider about your health insurance coverage regarding pregnancy, delivery, and newborn care.
